Ride with the High Island Gang

Group -High Island  Ranch ...Before dawn's early light the aroma of hot coffee brewing over a snapping fire lifts you out of your warm bedroll just in time for a hearty breakfast.

You saddle up quickly and pushing the herd out onto the trail, you settle into the slow pace of the West...

Ride back in time on a 35 mile trail to seasonal pastures in the spectacular landscape that is Wyoming. Live the legendary Cowboy Life, riding herd all day, enjoying chuckwagon grub, clear blue skies, the wide open spaces, campfires and peaceful nights under a canopy of stars.

* Who

Able-bodied Cowhands; aged: 16 and up; riding ability: all levels; attire: you supply your own jeans, heeled boots 1 1/2 - 2"); 1800's style felt hat.

* The Ranch Will Give You: 2 cotton shirts; silk wild rag.

* For Your Use During The Week We Will Issue: duster.

* The Trail Boss issues each hand: Tack, Horse, Saddlebag; horse brush; trail duffel bag; bedroll cover; eating gear.

You must bring your own sleeping bag and towels to use for the entire week.

* What

1800's Period Cattle Drive for the three days of the drive only, you will eat, sleep, dress, ride and live the Wyoming frontier life of 1800 - 1890. Colorful mountain men in buckskins and fur will share their knowledge of frontier life and exploration of the West in the 1830-40's. Listen to early cowboy music around the nightly campsite. Sample cornbread, beans, canned peaches, pies, fry bread, lemonade, cowboy coffee (it isn't ready 'til the horseshoe floats).....

* Where

At the 130,000 acre spread of the High Island Ranch and Cattle Co. in Thermopolis, WY. From the prairie (6,000') to the Owl Creek Mts. (12,800').

* Why

Live the legend - Experience first hand the daily life of America's favorite hero... The Cowboy... riding the range, learning to rope; branding calves; chuckwagon grub; sleeping under the stars. We must move the cattle herd to seasonal pastures along a 35 mile trail in three days and the High Island wants you to sign on.
